"pitch me a painting"
Lyrics by Rich Hoppe from the song 'Held Onto My Dreams'
I was an 11 year old boy running from a big Irish nun
She was crackin' my knuckles, she was whippin' my buns
I was doin' real bad in school, I was failing Jesus in church
Came from the wrong side of the tracks, my self - esteem was in the dirt
Then one magical evening in rode Eddie and the boys
they dispersed with our local Allstars like scattering, broken toys
now the king warmed up from center field, he even pitched from his knees,
blindfolded, behind his back with such rhythm and ease
In the bleachers that night I found light and I found joy
I found my reason and purpose for this Bayonne, NJ boy
So I've held onto my dreams and I never let go
been around the world 6 times with this Barnstorming, travelling show.
I built a cross in a rubber tree, it was small at the time but it could grow like me
It taught me it's never too late to dream and hooked me up with this special team
it said go around the world and please us and now I'm pitching for the Tribe of Jesus
come one come all in unity, sometimes you gotta close your eyes to see
And now a little heart knowledge...
So if you've ever been told it's too late, you're too old, or you don't have what it takes,
I heard all those things. So dust off that old guitar in your garage even if it's only got
3 strings you'll find the perfect riff. If there's a canvas sitting on an easel
in the corner for years don't be afraid of the first line for there are no mistakes.
If you have a story to be told, poetry, prose, lyric, prayer, song,
write it down, we'll read it, it'll save us all. Trust me, I'm living proof that dreams come true if you never let 'em go.
